Push Pier Installation in Atlantic City, New Jersey
Challenge
After enduring Superstorm Sandy, this home in Atlantic City, New Jersey, now suffers from severe foundation cracks caused by settling. These can be seen on the floor and walls throughout the home. Since the events of Sandy, doors, and windows have been increasingly more difficult to open. The home will need to be supported to halt the settling of the foundation, and raised to return it back to its wall’s original position. If not addressed soon, these issues will worsen and lead to the collapse of the structure.
Solution
The homeowner called when he saw one of our trucks in the area. After removing the concrete flooring, we installed a Push Pier System under the footing of the home where the weight of the structure is transferred to the soil below. Push piers are used used to stabilize foundations that are settling or sinking and showing symptoms such as cracked foundation walls, tilting chimneys, and jamming doors and windows. These are straight, steel piers that extend far below the structure to strong supporting soils and are driven in to push (lift) the foundation walls back to their original position. After the structure was secured, a TripleSafe Sump Pump System was installed to ensure the water that enters the home is pumped back outside. Our TripleSafe system includes a powerful primary pump, and backup pump, and a battery backup system to guarantee effectiveness during the worst of conditions. The homeowner was happy to see the cracks in his home begin to close up during the installation of the push piers and feels a lot safer for any future superstorms.
