Insulating and Encapsulating a Crawl Space in Norma, NJ
Challenge
A homeowner in Norma, NJ had a crawl space that required inspection and repairs. The crawl space had existing insulation that was hanging, and there were concerns about proper insulation and possible mold growth. Additionally, the customer mentioned that the crawl space was excessively cold during the winter months, which prompted the need for improved insulation. The crawl space was an addition without plumbing, eliminating the requirement for a smart drain. Access to the crawl space was only available from inside the basement. The customer had recently purchased a small dehumidifier, but it was not sufficient for the entire house.
Solution
After assessing the situation, our team proposed encapsulating the crawl space with our CleanSpace vapor barriers, and insulating the walls with our SilverGlo insulation. This approach would address the insulation concerns and provide a long-term solution. Additionally, we recommended upgrading the customer's dehumidifier to the SaniDry Sedona, which is capable of handling the humidity levels of the entire house. The condensation line from the dehumidifier would be directly connected to the existing sump system. It was noted that the customer already had a full perimeter waterproofing system in place.
