Waterproofing in Vineland New Jersey

Challenge

This 2-story Vineland, NJ home was built in 1973 and is about 1000 sq. ft. It has a finished basement that suffers from a seepage problem through the cinderblock foundation of the property during storms. On average, the basement would accumulate about 2 inches per storm. When the home was built, they had put in an outside drainage system, but over time, that system had failed. This problem is quite common, but the tricky part here is that there are large, expensive floor tiles that could obstruct the crew from properly waterproofing this home. In addition, this basement has multiple tight spaces and an underground weeping water system that made the waterproofing process even more of a challenge. There are also signs of mold that can be seen on the floor joists. If this basement is left without a water drainage system, not only would the finished basement be destroyed from water damage, but mold would continue to grow and contaminate the basement - making it unsafe to live in.

Solution

This is a perfect example of why a previous customer recommended Dry Guys, acquired by Quality 1st Basement Systems. The homeowner had heard of our reputation, and when Dave Davis, our System Designer, went to the property, he knew just the solution to help, and the homeowner signed an agreement with our team.

These expensive floor tiles (pictured) were carefully removed by our foreman, Jason Bowe, and the basement was fully waterproofed with our patented WaterGuard drainage system and a TripleSafe Sump Pump System was installed to prevent flooding and further damage to the homeowner’s basement. The mold was scrubbed with a surfactant and sprayed with an anti-fungicide. To prevent the possibility of mold growth, a SaniDry dehumidifier was installed to keep the overall humidity levels down- not just in the basement, but in the whole house. In order to properly waterproof this finished basement, these large expensive tiles will have to be removed around the perimeter of the basement.

After carefully removing the floor tiles around the edge and storing them safely, we are now able to properly waterproof this home's basement.

This waterproofing also ran to some of the more cramped areas of the basement such as behind the finished walls and under the staircase which had no more than a few feet of space.

Here is a picture of the area beneath the staircase now fully waterproofed.

To ensure that this finished basement stays dry, a Triple Safe Sump Pump System was installed which is one of the best sump pump systems available. This sump pump not only includes a backup pump, but a battery backup system to ensure the pump does not fail during a flood.
