Waterproofing a Basement With Over 55 Years of Water Issues!

Challenge

This homeowner had been dealing with a persistent basement flooding issue for decades, and has lived in the home since 1966! Water would leak in from the windows, walls, and floor, causing significant damage and inconvenience. The homeowner explained that this had been happening "forever," and was tired of cleaning the basement up after each rain with a ShopVac. This constant flooding problem made it difficult for the homeowner to fully utilize the basement space and posed a risk to the structural integrity of the home. This was something that needed to be urgently addressed, as well, as the homeowner was looking to sell the home after all of these years.

Solution

To address the basement flooding issue, our team implemented a comprehensive waterproofing solution. The following steps were taken to mitigate the water infiltration problem:

Window Well Replacement: The first step involved replacing the window wells. By installing new SunHouse window wells, we ensured a better seal around the windows, preventing water from entering through this vulnerable point.
WaterGuard® Installation: Our team installed the WaterGuard® drainage system around the perimeter of the basement. This system acts as a reliable drainage channel, collecting water and directing it away from the basement. It is placed just beneath the edge of the basement floor, ensuring there are no gaps for humidity to enter the space.
Sump Pump System Installation: The WaterGuard® drainage system was connected to a new sump pump system. The sump pump effectively expels the collected water from the basement, ensuring proper drainage and preventing future flooding issues.
CleanSpace® Wall System: To further enhance the waterproofing measures, our crew lined the walls with the CleanSpace® wall system. This system serves as a plastic vapor barrier, preventing moisture from penetrating the walls and redirecting any water that does accumulate to the WaterGuard® drainage system below.
